In 1972 I was 18 years old and in nursing school. After I completed a portion of my lecture classes, I was then sent out on the floors of the hospital; first on the medial units, then surgical units, and lastly on the specialty units and in surgery. During my surgical rotation I had my first experience with cancer. I assisted in a breast cancer surgery where I carried the tumor to the pathologists for a biopsy. He did the biopsy but already knew by looking at the specimen that it was, in fact, cancer. He had me touch the tumor to see what it felt like. I will never forget that moment and how scary it was to see what has taken the lives of so many.

Although I never thought my goal as a practitioner was to help those with cancer, I came to realize that overtime I was to provide that care for clients with cancer for they came to me looking for help. Now as the Director and practitioner at the Washington Institute of Natural Medicine I have realized that, through so many requests, I needed to offer care that augments conventional treatment. As each new client came to me I did further research on homeopathics, herbals, energy work, hypnosis, colon hydrotherapy, detoxification treatments, and guided imagery.

I am not against conventional medical care but rather advise my clients to see their medical doctors. I then do the best I can with natural methods to help them become more comfortable and live longer and happier. Although this information is antidotal I have helped clients live beyond the expectations of the conventional doctors. I can not make guarantees nor can I make miracles but I will do the best with my staff and the medical doctors that treat them.

In my selection of care I am careful to select treatment that will not interfere with chemo therapy and conventional medications. I select natural therapies that augment conventional therapies and assist with the side effects.

If you or a loved one wish to have complementary care added to conventional cancer treatment please feel free to contact our office. I work side by side with experienced practitioners working with cancer patients.
